Veda Heers, 89, of Story City, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services are pending with Soderstrum Funeral Homes.

Veda Delores Heers, 89, of Bethany Manor in Story City, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 3, at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Veda was born April 24, 1921, in Ellsworth, to Daniel and Mary (Anfinson) Buckels. She married Albert Heers Feb. 14, 1942, in Albuquerque, N.M., where he was stationed in the U.S. Army.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Albert Heers, of Story City; one son, Jon Heers, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; one daughter, Jan Porter, of Tampa, Fla.; three granddaughters, Marissa Heers, of Des Moines, Jasmine Porter, of Tampa, Fla., and Najja Porter, of Tampa, Fla.; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Heers, of Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be designated to Bethany Manor in Story City.
