THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

Richard Shima, 60, of Ames, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, with visitation one hour prior.

Richard David Shima, 60 of Ames, died February 28, 2010. Visitation at Adams Funeral Home, Ames, Iowa will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday March 5. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be at Municipal Cemetery, Ames, Iowa.

Richard (Rick) was born April 9, 1949 in Iowa City to David Francis Shima and Adeline Elizabeth (Crock) Shima. He was united in marriage in 1969 to Ule Ranz. One daughter, Shawna was born to this union.

Rick graduated from Grand Community High School in Boxholm, Iowa and attended Iowa State University in Ames, where he earned his B.B.A. degree in Accounting.

As an Accounting graduate he was presented the Elijah Watt Sells Award by the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants. Nationwide only 119 certificates with high distinction were awarded among the 70,810 candidates who took the examination.

Rick worked as a CPA in Temple, Texas in the mid 1980’s and later returned to Ames, Iowa where he made residence.

Rick is survived by his mother Adeline Phillis, of Ames, IA; brother, Randall (Randy) Shima and his wife Rebecca of Des Moines, IA; daughter Shawna Burns, Log Cabin City, TX; granddaughter, Skye Lee Burns of Eustes, TX; uncle, Edward Crock and his wife Louise of Iowa City, IA; aunt, Genevieve Platner of Mechanicsville, IA; uncle, Eugene Shima and his wife Shirley of Billings, MT; and uncle, Bernard Shima and his wife Virginia of Ft. Collins, CO.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Francis Shima, Hutchinson, Kansas on May 2, 2003. David’s wife Evelyn resides in Overland Park, Kansas.
