THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

, 43, of Ferguson, Mo., passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

John was born June 27, 1966, in Ames, to Michael and Shirley (Peake) Cox. He graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1984. He was a machinist by trade for several businesses in the St. Louis area. His spare time was spent working on cars, going to swap meets and attending car shows. He was a history buff and enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his father, Mike (Jo) Cox, of Burwell, Neb.; his mother, Shirley Cox, of Overland Park, Kan.; one brother, Bill (Holly) Cox, of Mabel, Minn.; one stepsister, Marnie Phillips, of Omaha, Neb.; one stepbrother, Ronald Koch, of Portland, Ore.; three nieces, Miranda and Camryn Cox, and Taylor Phillips; three nephews, Bryant Cox, and Chase and Logan Phillips; step-grandmother, Olga Cox; one uncle, Fred Peake, of Denver, Colo.; one aunt, Nancy (Dan) Richart, of Overland Park, Kan.; several cousins; and his dog, Chester.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers and grandfathers; one aunt, Barbara (Cox) Howell; and one cousin, D. Paul Richart.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
