THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

Gertrude “Gert” (Smith) Hunt, 100, of Nevada, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Story County Senior Care. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Collins Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.

Gertrude was born June 15, 1909, in Collins, the daughter of Orrin and Sarah (Gilley) Smith. She married Charles Hunt Sept. 23, 1953, at Highland Park Christian Church in Des Moines. He preceded her in death in 2004. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts, housework and cooking.

She is survived by one sister, Gloria Carpenter, of Nevada; one stepdaughter, Marilyn (Larry) VanDiver, of Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; eight brothers, Orville Smith, Kenneth Smith, Lester Smith, Donald Smith, Harold Smith, Marion Smith, Conrad Smith and Arnold Smith; and two sisters, Vilda Munt and Ida Smith.
