NEVADA – Wesley Edwin Alexander, 88, of Nevada, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died peacefully Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Wesley (Wes) was born to Lee and Stella (Christy) Alexander on December 17, 1921 in Nevada. He attended North Grant and Shipley Schools and graduated from Nevada High School in 1941. In 1943 he married Betty Jean Soper. A World War II Veteran, Wes was a proud member of the “Greatest Generation”. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a pilot mechanic in the South Pacific for three and a half years. Upon his return he worked several years in sales and retired from the ISU Ames Laboratory in 1985. A lifelong resident of Nevada, Wes was happiest when surrounded by his family.

Wes is survived by his two daughters: Jolene (Virgil) Buffington, Cindi (Dean) Dueland, five grandchildren: Joe Buffington, Andrea (Rodney) Peel, Toby (Heather) McCarter, Brooke (John) Sanborn, Teran Dueland and fiancé Josh Clutts; five great-grandchildren: Jackson, Braxton, Gavin, Jaeger, Teagan and his beloved cousin and best friend, Keith Christy.

Wes was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Betty; his parents and one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Alexander) and Wally Mooney.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Visitation with the family will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the memorial service. Wes and Betty’s cremains will be inurned at Nevada Municipal Cemetery with military honors at 2 p.m. following lunch at the church.

Memorials may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church or First United Methodist Church in Nevada.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
