Lloyd J. Ray, 84, of Boone died Nov. 20, 2009 at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert. Burial was in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Lloyd was born Jan. 3, 1925 in rural Boone to Vaughn and Elizabeth (Blakeley) Ray. He graduated from South Hamilton High School and then entered the US Army for a year. He married Betty Gertsen on August 14, 1948. He farmed near Boone for many years.

Lloyd was a proud member of Gilbert Lutheran Church and had lived in Boone county for most of his life. He enjoyed horses, driving a hitch, fishing and playing cards. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Boone, four daughters, Marla Lenocker (Bruce) of Audubon, Barb Herrstrom (Bob), Sharon Erb (Dennis), and Darlene Doerder (Daryl), all of Boone; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Sylvina Ray of Story City and a brother-in-law, Ray Nicholson of Ames.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marlene Joan Ray; a brother, Herbert Ray and two sisters, Margaret Nicholson and Lois Underland.

Memorials may be made to Gilbert Lutheran Church or the Evangelical Free Home in Boone. Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City was entrusted with-arrangements.
