THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, December 6, 2009.

Kenneth Duane Peterson, 78, of Story City, died Dec. 5, 2009, at his home in Story City. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Kenny was born May 31, 1931, in Story City, to Arnold W., and Burdella (Pederson) Peterson. He married Joann Ose on Dec. 26, 1951. He was the current mayor of Story City since 2001 and previously had served many years on the City Council. He was a rural mail carrier and had owned Ken’s Paint and Floors in Story City.

He was a lifetime resident of Story City and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City Lions Club and Central Iowa Regional Housing Authority. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping, reading and his grandchildren’s activities. He was a former scoutmaster and an Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Joann, of Story City; three sons; Greg (Linda); Steve (Mary), of Story City; and Jeff (Jackie), of Bondurant; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Barb (Dorrel), of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter-in-law, Ann.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is in charge of arrangements.
