Jerry M. Cheek, 67 died at his Ames home on November 26, 2009 after a battle with cancer. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, December 1 at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 250 E Avenue in Nevada.
Jerry was born at Des Moines Lutheran Hospital to Mildred (Bacon) and Roy Cheek. He grew up doing construction work in the summers working with his Dad. Jerry graduated from Nevada High School in 1960 and married his high school sweetheart, Linda Haley in May 21, 1961. They lived in Nevada all but the last couple of years when they moved to Ames. Jerry worked as a parts man all of those years — first with Continental Fertilizer Co., then Massey Ferguson and finally with Peterbilt Truck Sales in Altoona from where he retired. He was active in sports in school and continued to love sports through playing in adult leagues and following his kids and grandkids in sports. He was on the Booster Club in Nevada for several years. He was an active member of the First Christian Church, passing his faith on to his kids and grandkids. His family was his life and he was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa.
Jerry is survived by his wife Linda of Ames; three children, Deb Robinson (Randy), Brenda Theilen (Monty Lintz), and Jim Cheek (Dana), all of Nevada; grandchildren, Tara, Tonya and Tasha Robinson, Kasey and Kelli Theilen, and Delaney, James and Hayden Cheek; his brother, Dee Cheek (Sandra) of Ames; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karen and Tom Plunkett of Maxwell, Ron and Dianna Haley of Nevada, Jan Hathaway of Nevada and Junior Haley of Maxwell; and many loved nieces and nephews.
