THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, October 21, 2009.

Edward Ralph Rosheim, age 87, of Tama, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at his home under the care of Iowa Hospice. A Memorial Service was held Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at 10:30 am. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Phil Borleske officiating. Interment followed at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.

Edward was born on March 17, 1922, St. Patrick's Day in Roland, Iowa, (his sons would later refer to March 17th as St. Edward's Day). Ed was the fourth child of Dr. Elling, DDS and Laura (Rodsater) Rosheim.

He graduated from Roland Consolidated High School in 1940.

Edward served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a first scout for Company F, 184th Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He joined the 7th infantry on Leyte Island in the Philippines. Ed went in on the first wave on Okinawa Easter Sunday 1945. He was wounded two times during the battle of Okinawa, and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart with Cluster, two Battle Stars and the Army Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Ed enrolled in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Iowa during the summer of 1946. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, the National Freshmen Scholastic Society, and Rho Chi, National Scholastic Honors Pharmacy Society. He graduated in 1950 and moved to Tama, Iowa.

He married Bette Halterman of Roland on July 8, 1950 and joined in a pharmacy partnership with Harry Platt in 1951 until 1959. Ed and Bette successfully owned and ran the Rexall drugstore in Tama for thirty-six years as well as the Rexall drugstore in Toledo for several years.

Ed's passions included golfing with friends and family, reading books, indulging his sweet tooth on everything from Russell Stover chocolates to lefse, and helping others. Always positive and supportive, Ed was a great spirit who will be missed by family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Loren and Irwin Rosheim; and his sister, Beatrice Peterson.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Bette of Tama; four sons, John of Kensington, California, Mark of St. Paul, Minnesota, Matthew (Kay) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Eddie (Cheryl) of Woodbury, Minnesota; four grandchildren. Laura and Erik Rosheim, children of Matt and Kay, and Michael and Natalie Rosheim. children of Eddie and Cheryl Rosheim.
