Janet Simpson Cole, 93, of Ames, died Friday at Northcrest Health Care Center in Ames of heart failure.
Janet Simpson Cole was born Jan. 11, 1908, in Salt Lake City, the daughter of George Morris and Linnie (Barnes) Simpson. She had lived in Ames since 1949. She also lived in North Dakota, West Union and Crystal Lake, Ill., and was a teacher in Maynard and Vinton. She graduated from West Union High School in 1924 and received a bachelor of arts degree from Clarke College. She also attended Syracuse University. She was a homemaker and a music teacher. She married Jess Cole June 1, 1935, in Minneapolis. She was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church, Easter Star, P.E.O. Chapter L.N., Book & Basket, Organ Guild of Des Moines, Faculty Women's Club and founder of Northcrest Retirement Community.She is survived by her husband; two sons, James S. Cole of Raleigh, N.C. and Jess N. Cole of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Cantwell of Syracuse, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Collegiate United Methodist Church of Ames.
Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
