THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, July 29, 2009.

Gaylord M. Henryson, 92, of Story City died July 25, 2009 at his home in Story City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Story City Cemetery.

Gay was born Jan. 14, 1917 in Story City to Annas and Malinda (Myre) Henryson. He was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Gay was in the Armed Forces in World War II from January 1942 to October 1945. He married Colleen Robbins on March 19, 1949.

Gay farmed for 51 years and he and Colleen built and operated KOA campground for 27 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the Story County Conservation Board and Story City Park Board. He was also a member of the Story City American Legion and VFW.

Gay is survived by his wife, Colleen of Story City; two sons, Bruce (Jan) Henryson of Sioux Center, and Gary (Kay) Henryson of College Station, Texas; a daughter, Beth (Russ) Schrooten of Katy, Texas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Braaten of Northfield, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Gloria Sue; a brother, Harold, and three sisters, Selma Dyvig, Myrtle Olson, and Margaret Hart.

Visitation was Tuesday (yesterday) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
