Alice C. Romsey, 85, of Story City died July 20, 2009 at her home following a short battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial was prior to the service at South St. Petri Cemetery in rural Gilbert. Visitation was Wednesday, July 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Alice was born on January 12, 1924 in Ames to Elmer O. and Genora (Twedt) Olson. She married Ray Romsey on October 9, 1946. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and volunteered for over 25 years at Bethany Manor. She lived most of her life in the Story City area, except for ten years in Eagle Grove.
Alice was an amazing cook and baker and was known for her rolls and fudge. She was proud of Norwegian heritage; taking 10 trips to Norway and being able to speak fluent Norwegian. Alice enjoyed emailing her friends and family all over the country and in Norway, she also enjoyed gardening and her flowers; but most of all she treasured being a grandparent and great-grandparent.
Alice is survived by her husband Ray of Story City; two daughters, Lorie Kepley of Ames and Trudi Stark of Nevada; two sons, Kirk (Helen) Romsey of Ames and Kevin (Candy) Romsey of Gilbert; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Pat) Olson of Webster City; three sisters, Colleen (LaVerne) Romsey of Clarion, Barbara Olson of New York City, and Mary (Raleigh) Wilkerson of New Hampshire; a son-in-law, Bill Kniepes of Michigan and a sister-in-law, Millie Olson of Story City.
She-was-preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Janie Kniepes and a brother, Homer Olson. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name. Soderstrum Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
