Palmer Saveraid, 95, of Huxley died Friday, Dec. 5, at Ballard Creek, Huxley. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Maybee officiating.

Palmer was born January 7, 1913 in Boone to Peder J. and Josephine (Severeid) Saveraid. He was a materials technician at the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring in 1976. He also was a butter maker at the Huxley Creamery. Palmer restored antique cars and enjoyed driving them in many parades over the years. He enjoyed woodworking and was the "fix-it" man for his family and many others.

His survivors include his daughter, Darlene Kalsem, of Huxley; daughter-in-law, Janice Saveraid of Johnston; seven grandchildren, Sherri (Ray) Hays of Clive, Susan (Mark) Schaudt of Slater, Stephen Saveraid of Omaha, NE, Scott (Anne) Saveraid of Davenport, Lori (Tim) Hill of Cambridge, Julie (Tom ) McAuliff of West Des Moines and Suzanne (Kyle) Crowe of Eden Prairie, MN; 22 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marjorie Sellers of Story City; and special cousins, Elizabeth and Javerna Maland of Huxley and Viola Peterson of Kelley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Jean, of 70 years; son, Donald Saveraid; grandson, Alan Jon Kalsem; four brothers, Arthur, J.O., Walter and Joye Saveraid; and two sisters, Elizabeth Sheldahl and Joyce Cooper.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Fjeldberg Lutheran Church.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
