Beverly Jean Petersen Bock passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Fort Dodge Bickford Cottage. Visitation with family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Gunderson's Funeral Home in Fort Dodge. A private family service and inurnment will be in Boone at a later date.

Beverly Jean Petersen Bock was born May 2, 1923, in Boone, to Marcus and Louise (Sandell) Petersen. She graduated from Boone High School in 1941 and attended Iowa State University, earning a bachelor's degree in child development. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She taught preschool in Oregon for one year before returning to the Midwest.

On June 25, 1947, she married Dr. Don Richard Girton Bock, M.D., at First Presbyterian Church in Boone. He was a physician in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, and the couple resided in several locations, including Washington, D.C., Battle Creek, Mich., San Antonio and Kalene, Texas, and Boone, while Don served overseas in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, the family moved to Fort Dodge, where he began his private medical practice in 1954.

She was a co-founder and director of Dodger Preschool at First Congregational Church, and a member of JX Chapter P.E.O. and Fort Dodge Country Club. She was also a deacon and longtime Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church, bridge club member and Iowa Heart Association volunteer.

In 1980, Beverly and Don moved to Ames, where she was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, serving as both an elder and deacon; Capt. Greeley Chapter of Questers, ISU Faculty Wives, United Presbyterian Women, P.E.O., and Ames Golf and Country Club. She returned to Fort Dodge following Don's death in December 2003, residing at the Bickford Cottage.

They enjoyed extensive world travel and the Iowa Friendship Force. Her greatest passions were being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an excellent cook and decorator, loved flower gardening, and was a talented golfer and bowler. Her family remembers her as the most kind and caring of mothers. She possessed a thoughtful and generous spirit, with a beaming smile for all.

She is survived by her children, the Rev. Gregory (Julie) Bock, of Fort Dodge, Marcus (Diane) Bock, of The Villages, Fla., and Mary Jo (Rev. Paul) Taintor, of Silver Bay, Minn. She also is survived by l2 grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Carl, Jennifer, Sarah, Angela, Anthony, Micah, Matthew, Marcus, Luke and Aaron; three great-grandsons, Kenan, Lucas and Tate; and two nephews, Jeffrey and Peter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Mary Joanne (Lowell) Herold.

The family wishes to thank all caregivers who loved and comforted Beverly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the discretion of the family.

Gunderson Funeral Home of Fort Dodge is assisting with arrangements.
