THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 24, 2008.

David Lawrence Kenney, 66, of rural Nevada, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, due to complications of cancer. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at Nevada Christian Church, 250 West E Ave., in Nevada.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, at Nevada Christian Church.

David was born March 22, 1942, at the Iowa Sanitarium in Nevada, to Glenn and Eva (Nelson) Kenney. He attended elementary school in Fernald, and graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1960. He earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural business from Iowa State University in 1966. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1963 to 1969. During this time, he worked at John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny as a production line inspector and also at Ryerson Implement in Nevada.

He began his farming career in 1968 with his father. Following his father's retirement, David's brother, Bruce, joined the family farming operation. In his later years, David's nephews, Mark and Will, joined the family farm. David's life was farming. He especially enjoyed the independence of the farming lifestyle.

He was a lifelong resident of Richland Township and served as township clerk for many years.

He is survived by one brother, Bruce (Barbara) Kenney, of Nevada; niece, Elaine (Will) Axmear, of Nevada; nephew, Mark (Julie) Kenney, of Ankeny; and two great-nieces, Olivia Axmear and Brooke Axmear, of Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to the Oak Hill Cemetery Association in care of Gerri Gerlach, 19040 630th Ave., Nevada, IA, 50201.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is in charge of arrangements.
