THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, September 23, 2008.

David E. Maxwell, 65, of Ames, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Burial will follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Adams Funeral Home.

David was born July 12, 1943, in Ames, to Esther and Harold E. Maxwell. He graduated from Ames High School in 1961, and after serving in Vietnam, achieved a master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1972. He married Katherine Lee (Katie) in 1964. After he retired from the Milwaukee Sentinel newspaper in 1990, he returned to his beloved Ames to start in this second career at the Ames Post Office as a mail carrier. He enjoyed nature, history, photography and reading.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Katie; his daughter, Christine and her children, Kaitlyn and Connor, of Prairie City; and his son, Mike, of Ames. He also is survived by two sisters, Janice Maxwell Olson and Margaret (Ted) Brubacher; and several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Jr.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ames Public Library.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
