Leo Pohlman, 87, formerly of Mingo, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Ira United Church at Ira. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery west of Ira.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Leo was born Dec. 26, 1920, at Castana, the son of John and Margaret (Lindsey) Pohlman. He married Frieda Dahl July 17, 1942. Frieda preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1990. He farmed near Mingo from 1955 until retiring in 2002. He was a member of Ira United Christian Church.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Joyce Pohlman, of Nevada, and Mark and Tracy Pohlman, of Mingo; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Hilton, of Washington, Iowa; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Pohlman, of Ute, and Clarence Pohlman, of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Eva Weise, of Mapleton; and a special friend, Linda Comstock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Clyde, Art, Capp and Charlie; and one sister, Grace.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to United Church of Ira.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
