Harold Jewell, 80, of Ames, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008. Services are pending with Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Harold Kenneth Jewell passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008. He was born June 21, 1928, to Clara and Paul Jewell in Kersey, Colo. He attended Colorado Agricultural and Mechanical College, where he earned a bachelor's degree. On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Janet Sellers Jewell, with whom he had three children. In July 1972, he and his family moved to Ames. He worked for the Iowa Crop Improvement Association and the Committee for Ag Development at Iowa State University. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed working outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, on Aug. 27, 1998.

He is survived by his children, Paul Jewell, of Ames, Jennifer Chaplin, of Des Moines, and John Jewell, of Denver, Colo.; his grandchildren, Courtney Chaplin, Thomas Jewell, Brian Jewell and Elizabeth Jewell; and one brother, Calvin Jewell, of Arvada, Colo.

An informal reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. He will be laid to rest in Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House and Homeward Hospice, 400 S. Dakota Ave., Ames, IA 50014.
