Violet was born on the family farm near Alcester in Union Co. South Dakota to Andrew & Anna Twedt on September 3, 1920. She attended Cole Country School & Lands Lutheran Church. At the age of thirteen Violet moved with the family into the town of Beresford, SD, where she attended school & completed confirmation at Emmanual Lutheran Church.

Violet & Merlin (the love of her life) were introduced to each other by a mutual friend who had moved to Beresford. Times were tough, & money scarce, but the Model A Ford traveled the 75 miles to Beresford as often as possible. They were united in marriage September 29, 1937, at Elk Point, SD. Merlin brought his bride home to the family farm near Montrose, SD. To this union one daughter, Florence Ann, was born.

The young family moved to rural Cambridge Iowa in 1944, & later were residents of the Sheldahl, & Huxley communities. Violet was employed as a cook at the Sheldahl School for five years. After moving to the Huxley area in 1953, she candled eggs at the Slater creamery, & was a cook at the Fjord Restaurant in Huxley. Violet & Merlin moved into Huxley in 1964, where Violet enjoyed the community contact she experienced as an Avon Representative for 10 years.

Violet enjoyed homemaking, & made an art of canning. Before moving into town, she maintained a huge flower & vegetable garden. Other interests were WELCA activities, Bible Study, being a mentor for Fjeldberg confirmation students, singing in the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church choir & with the Dulcimer Community Band. Hobbies were 'scrapbooking' before it had a name, poetry, & reading,

In 2002, Violet & Merlin moved to the Ballard Creek Assisted Living Community of Huxley. She was preceded in death by her husband Merlin in 2003, her parents Andrew & Anna Twedt, three sisters, Pearl Hovik, Thelma Thompson, & Doris Carlson; & eight brothers: Elmer, Irvin, Arnold, Noble, Bennie, Milton, Donald & Raymond Twedt.

Violet is survived by her daughter Florence (Paul) Sandve of Rosemount, MN; four granddaughters: Marcia (Peter) Staples of Portland OR; Marlys (Peter) McDevitt of Lakeville MN; Nikki Sandve of Helena MT; & Noelle (August) Mecl of Port Orchard WA; & four great-grandchildren; Ryell & Kamran Masood of Portland OR; & Anna & Krista McDevitt of Lakeville MN; one sister Evelyn (Clifford) Thorson of Phoenix AZ; & many treasured nieces & nephews.

Soderstrum Riis Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
