Services Wednesday for Clara B. Backous of Nevada

NEVADA — Mrs. Clara B. Backous, age 79, 1226 Lincolnway, Nevada, died Sunday evening at the Story County Hospital in Nevada, after an illness of three years. Funeral services will be held from Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, with Pastor Wayne Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery at Iowa Center, Ia.

She was born April 27, 1896 in Collins to John and Nancy Vasey. She has lived in Story County all her life. Her husband George W. Backous died in 1969.

She is survived by one son, Irvin of Nevada, two daughters: Mrs. Jessie (Luke) Bakka of St. Joseph, Mich., and Mrs. Mary (Clarion) Sampson of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren ; one great - great-grandchild; one brother, George Vasey of Corydon, Ia.; and one sister, Mrs. Ada Smith of Leavenworth, Kan. '

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, four brothers and one granddaughter.

Funeral services for Clara Bell Backous were held Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Ryan Funeral Horne in Nevada.

Pastor Wayne Hanson of the Memorial Lutheran Church officiated. Beula Settle was organist.

Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery at Iowa Center, Iowa. Pallbearers were Grandsons, Dick Bakka, Dennis Backous, Michael Backous, Rodney Backous, Douglas Sampson, Ron Sampson, Stephen Sampson and Charles Walker.

Clara, daughter of John and Nancy Vasey was born April 27, 1896 at Collins, Iowa. She was united in marriage to George W. Backous on August 7, 1913 at Nevada, Ia. She lived in this area all her life. She passed away at the Story, County Hospital Feb. 1, 1976.

She is survived by one son, Irvin Backous of Nevada, two daughters; Mrs. Luke (Jessie) Bakka of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Mrs. Clarion (Mary) Sampson of Nevada; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; one brother, George Vasey of Corydon, Ia.; one sister, Mrs. Ada Smith of Leavenworth, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Backous in 1969, her parents, five sisters, four brothers and one granddaughter.
