Wm. Backous and Family

The death of Elmer Backous at Wetonka, S. Dak., to which we referred in our last issue, brought the parents, brother Sam and sister Etna to the funeral, which was held at the Christian Church of Maxwell last Thursday. Rev. Gharrett preached the sermon. The interment was at Peoria cemetery. Deceased died from bronchitus Tuesday, June 14th. He was but one week sick. His age was 3 years and 7 months.

The Backous family are pleased with South Dakota. The country is settling up and they are doing well. Mr. Backous owns 160 acres and rents a half section. The children attend the town school at Wetonka. Seven children survive. Mr. and Mrs. Backous, Sam and Etna will leave here today, starting on their journey northwest from Des Moines. They have visited relatives and friends the past week.
