Roine Strother, 91, of Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone and formerly of Napier, died Saturday, June 28, at the home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Napier United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Roine was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Napier, the daughter of Eland and Myrtle (Gardner) Bates. She graduated from Napier High School in 1934 and attended Capital City Community College in Des Moines. She married Richard Strother March 21, 1941, in Napier. She was a homemaker, mother and helped her husband, Richard, operate their farm in Napier. She was an active church member of Napier United Methodist Church, and she was active in 4-H, including being a leader. She moved to Boone in 1996.
She is survived by three sons, William Strother and wife, Wanda, of New Hampton, Ralph Strother, DVM, and wife, Patrice, of Union, and Ray Strother and wife, Chris, of Overland Park, Kan.; one daughter, Elmina Woolman and husband, Terry, of Urbandale; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Bates, DVM, and wife, Jo, of Union; and four sisters, Dorothy Gillett, of Fallbrook, Calif., Evelyn Longseth, of Longmont, Calif., Ruth Wherry, of Carson City, Nev., and Mary Pecoraro and husband, Eddie, of San Diego.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Eldon, Elnathan and an infant brother.
Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. today at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone, where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the church in Napier.
Memorials may be given to Napier United Methodist Church, the Iowa American Heart Association or the Disabled Veterans.
