THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, June 25, 2008.

Thomas Ernest Weigel, 59, of Ames, died Tuesday, June 24, at Boone County Hospital in Boone. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, at Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural Gilbert.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone, where a vigil service will be at 7 p.m. and the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, at the funeral chapel.

Thomas was born Jan. 22, 1949, in Boone, the son of Laurence and Eileen (Garvey) Weigel. He graduated from Ames High School in 1968. He was a grain farmer in Boone County and in earlier years, he raised livestock. He enjoyed woodworking and model cars. He loved farming.

He is survived by his parents, Laurence and Eileen Weigel, of Ames; five brothers, Paul Weigel and wife, Marlene, of Boone, Charles Weigel and wife, Diana, of Ames, Hugh Weigel and wife, Donna, of Story City, Patrick Weigel and wife, Sharon, of Ames, and John Weigel, of Ames; two sisters, Margaret Weigel RSM, of Cedar Rapids, and Leah Weigel, of Ames; 10 nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Mary (McKenna) Weigel and Thomas and Margaret (Moriarity) Garvey; one sister-in-law, Beverly (Moorman) Weigel; and one great-niece, Maddison Weigel.

Memorials may be given to the Saints Peter and Paul Youth Service.
