Edna Marie Hughes, 79, of RR2, Nevada IA, died Tuesday, April 26, 1988, at her home.
Death was due to a heart attack.
She was born Jan. 5, 1909, near Madrid, IA to Servigna and Rena (Barnevelt) Godfrey. She had been a resident of Story County the past 52 years.
Survivors include two sons, Dale of Nevada and Loyd of Ames IA; three daughters, Norene Hughes of Austin TX, Linda Meyers of Littleton CO and Karen Witzleben of Durham NC; eight grandchildren, and a sister, Bernice Schwab of Prescott AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Norman; a grandson, Rexford, and her husband, Rexford, who died in 1957.
Mrs. Hughes was a farmer and a retired music school teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also belonged to the Senior Citizens Choir, Happy Hour Club, Milford Club, Farm Bureau, 4-H and Delta Sigma Epsilon.
Funeral services will be held from the Nevada United Methodist Church Saturday, April 30, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. William Ballard officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Milford Township, Story County, IA.
Friends may call at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 5th St. and G Ave., Nevada, after 2 p.m. Friday, April 29.
