Eva (Sherman/Hitchcock) Harper 1861 - 1948

Eva Sherman, daughter of Mr. William and Martha Sherman, was born at Aurora, Ill., September 29, 1861, and passed away at her home 1122 First St., in Nevada, Iowa at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 1948, being 87 years and one day old. When a small child her mother passed away. Then her father and the two children came to Iowa in a covered wagon. After her father's death, she went back to Illinois to live with an uncle and aunt, Mr. John and Susan Hill, who lived in the neighborhood of Mendota, Ill. She grew to womanhood there. At the age of 20 she was married to Charles Hitchcock. To this union one son, William, was born and a daughter, who died in infancy. Mr. Hitchcock and family came to Iowa and lived in the neighborhood of Cambridge and White Oak school. Mr. Hitchcock died in 1914. In 1921 she was married to Mr. John W. Harper and they lived for some time in the vacinity of Pleasant Grove. Her son, William, passed away in 1928, Mr. and Mrs. Harper moved to Nevada in 1930, and she had made her home here for the past 18 years. Mr. Harper passed away about 7 years ago.
The last 5 years Mr. Jim Epperly has faithfully cared for her as if she were his own mother.
