John Walker Harper, 85, whose funeral rites were held at the Morfoot Funeral home here Sunday afternoon, was a son of John and Mary Harper, born Sept. 14, 1857 and passed away at Mary Greeley hospital at Ames, February 25, 1943. His age was 85 years, 5 mo. and 11 days.
On January 15, 1882 he was married to Lucy May Burns. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Della Starkey of Des Moines, Mrs. Gertrude Sesker of Des Moines and Warren Harper of Elkhart.
For a number of years Mr. Harper was in the farming business around Des Moines and later moved to Kansas where the family spent four years. After leaving Kansas they came to White OaK, Iowa where they located on a farm near that place. Later the family moved to a farm north of Ames where they lived for 27 years. Following this they moved to Nevada where Mr. Harper was living at 1122 First street at the time of his death.
In later years Mr. Harper was married to Eva Hitchcock who survives him.
In addition to the wife and three children, Mr. Harper leaves six grand children and four great grandchildren. Also one living brother. Besides these a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Harper had a host of friends and was highly respected by all.
Funeral services were held at the Morfoot Funeral home on Sunday afternoon February 28, conducted by the Reverend O. E. Cooley. Burial was at Pleasant Grove cemetery.---form the Nevada Evening Journal Feb. 25, 1943
