"TOM" SOWERS IS CALLED BY DEATH
Prominent Milford Township Farmer Victim of Influenza; Funeral Services Held Privately at Farm Home Today; Death Shocks Friends.
Howard E. Sowers, known as better to a wide circle of friends as "Tom" Sowers, died Thursday morning at his farm home a mile east and a mile north of Dayton's park and about eight miles northeast of Ames, from pneumonia following influenza. the funeral was held privately at the farm home this afternoon with short service at the grave. Interment was made in the Nevada cemetery.
Mr. Sowers had been ill about a week. His son Galen became sick first, and then both Mr. and Mrs. Sowers became sick.
A big, strong looking man, "Tom" Sowers' death comes as a great surprise and shock to his many friends. He was well known in this city as well as in many other secitons of the county. He was a son of J. W. Sowers of Nevada. "Tom" was farming his father's place.
In addition to his wife and 13 year old son, Galen, he is survived by his father, J. W. Sowers of Nevada, three brothers and six sisters, besides a large number of other relatives. The brothers surviving are George, living on a farm about a mile from the home place; Henry, at home; and James at Bancroft. The sisters are Mrs. Homer Boyes, living northeast of Ames; Mrs. Franklin Montgomery of Nevada; and Sylvia, Irma and Mildred at home. The mother died two years ago this winter and a brother, Max, died last winter. "Tom" was about forty years of age.---probably from the Ames Tribune
