Howard Ernest Sowers, one of the successful farmers and substantial citizens of Milford township, following an illness of some ten days, succumbs to the combined attacks of flu and pneumonia and passed into the veiled beyond.Mr. Sowers was the son of James W. and the late Mrs. Alice J. Sowers and was born March 1, 1880; and at the time of his death lacked but a few days of being forty years old, the prime period of a vigorous and useful life. He was born on the well known James W. Sowers homestead farm and thereon and in that vicinity grew to young manhood. March 1, 1905, he married a most estimable young woman, Miss Pearl Gretsinger of this city. They were the parents of one son, Galen B. Sowers, a lad of thirteen years. Mr. Sowers was a man of vigorous physical makeup, possessed usual good health and his first serious illness proved to be his last. He was a good neighborhood man, a member of the township school board at times and always ready to do his share in promoting improved conditions in the material and social affairs in his section of the county. His death, which occurred Wednesday morning, Feb. 11, 1920, is the third one to have taken place in the Sowers family since October, 1918, his brother Max and his mother having died during this period. A wide circle of friends of this large and worthy household, deeply sympathize with them in these thrice repeated bereavements.
The funeral services were private, held at the Sowers home, adjoining the paternal home farm on the west, and conducted by Rev. M. R. Shipman of the Nevada M. E. church.
The surviving family relatives of the deceased are his wife and son, his father, his brothers, George R., Henry T. and James H. and sisters, Blanche (Mrs. Homer Boyes), Jessie, (Mrs. B. F. Montgomery), Sibyl, (Mrs. Arch Montgomery), Sylvia, Irma and Mildred.
The burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
