Graveside services and burial of the cremains of Irvin Charles Anderson, who died Dec. 18, 2007, at Boone County Hospital, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in Essex Cemetery in Essex.

Irvin Charles Anderson was born April 4, 1928, in Page County, the son of Alvin and Lillie (Gustafson) Anderson. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1947, Iowa State University in 1951 and received a master's degree and a doctorate degree from North Carolina State University. He lived in Ames most of his life. He worked at the agronomy farm at Iowa State University and taught graduate courses in research and crop production from 1958 to 2005, when he retired. In earlier years, he served with the Iowa National Guard for six years. He loved being a professor and working in an advisory position at ISU. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, boating and camping with his son and daughter.

He is survived by one son, Michael and wife, Janet, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; one daughter, Kristina Kappes and husband, Richard, of Bowie, Md.; three brothers, Howard, of Choctaw, Okla., Clark and wife, Myrna, of Shenandoah, and Richard and wife, Gene Ann, of Sibley; two sisters, Donna Rulon and husband, Bill, of Shenandoah, and Beth Ann Anderson, also of Shenandoah; eight grandchildren, Erik, Luke and Sara (twins) and Blake Anderson, and Andy, Jenna, Garrett and Krista Kappes; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin.

Hackett Livingston Funeral Home is in charge of the graveside service.
