James Swenson, 63, of Ames, died Wednesday, May 7, at his residence. Funeral services are pending with Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

James A. Swenson, 63, of Ames, died Wednesday, May 7, at home. A private family service will be at a later date.

James A. Swenson was born Dec. 16, 1944, in Eldora, to Elmer and Amy (Gjerde) Swenson. He was a 1963 graduate of Roland High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a technician for Sauer Danfoss. He liked to dance when he was younger and enjoyed hunting, drinking coffee and stopping to talk with farmers.

He is survived by one brother, Roger (Virginia) Swenson, of Ankeny; three nieces, Angela (Mark) Schnurstein, of Ankeny, and their children, Emma Louise and Mason James, Wendy (BJ) Whitaker, of Story City, and their son, Tucker and Shannon Green, of Webster City, and her children, Paul, Skylar and Blaise; one aunt, Alice Gjerde, of Story City; and one sister-in-law, Diane Swenson, of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Swenson.

Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City is assisting the family with arrangements.
