Marie Pearl Erickson Lee was born May 8, 1919, in Cambridge, to John and Gunda Lewis Erickson. She attended Livingston School and graduated from Cambridge High School. She married Gayle Harrison Lee Jan. 1, 1938. He preceded her in death May 5, 2001. She was a farmer's wife for 47 years, on a farm located east of Cambridge until their retirement in 1985, when they moved into town in Cambridge. In 1969, she went to work outside of the home at Younkers Department Store in Ames. She retired from Younkers in 1991, at the age of 72.

She was a lifelong member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge. Her wealth was her family. She and Gayle attended every grandchild's wedding, which resulted in them traveling to many different states. She was the quintessential mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She truly loved playing cards with her family and friends, especially the "Yurs & Mine Club" and in later life, with her Huxley friends.

She is survived by her six children, Karen (Harold) Brown, of McGregor, Linda Ballenger, of Cambridge, Nancy Canady, of Houston, David (Doreen) Lee, of Cambridge, Gregory Lee, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Larry Lee, of Ames. Marie also is survived by 11 grandchildren, Tammy Herman, Jennifer Gillespie, Brice Brown, Kevin Brown, Gail Coultrap, Scott Canady, Casey Garrett, Megan Lee, Mandy Lee, Clinton Lee and Ryan Lee; 21 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Kathleen Erickson, Margaret Lee, LaVaughn Wells and Patricia Holstein; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gayle Lee; one grandson, Jeffrey Vasey; and three siblings, Irvin Erickson, Ruth Ennor and Howard Erickson.
