Mildred Armena Roberts Oliver peacefully slipped away from this life in the evening hours of Saturday, April 26, at Trinity Care Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor Myron D. Herzberg officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday, April 30, in the lounge at the church.
Mildred Armena Roberts Oliver was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Latimer, to Bruce and Helena Roberts. She attended the Christian Day School through the eighth grade and graduated from Latimer High School in Latimer. She married her life's companion, Wayne N. Oliver, Sept. 16, 1936. One of her proudest accomplishments was co-owning and operating the Western Auto Store in Nevada for more than 30 years with her husband. After selling the Western Auto Store, she began a career as manager of Engeldinger's Children's Store at North Grand Mall in Ames and worked there approximately 17 years, retiring in 1982.
In 1999, Wayne and Millie moved from their beloved Nevada home to Mercy Park Apartments in Des Moines, until their admission to Trinity Center at Luther Park in 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Curtiss (Darlene), of Des Moines, and Keith (Sharon), of Cambridge; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne, on Jan. 3, 2005; her parents; one sister, Loretta; and two brothers, Ralph and Milo.
A memorial fund has been established at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th St., in Nevada.
