Margaret Jane Ebert, 76, of Nevada, died Friday, April 25, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th St., in Nevada, with Pastor Myron D. Herzberg officiating. Private burial of the cremains will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, in the lounge of the Memorial Lutheran Church.
Margaret Jane Ebert was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Bedford, to Leonard I. and Floy (Wisdom) Maxwell. She attended elementary and high school there, graduating in May 1949. She attended Simpson College in Indianola from 1949 to 1951, and received a bachelor's degree from Drake University in 1972. She married Wesley H. Ebert May 31, 1953, in Bedford. She was a teacher in the Ogden, Huxley and Colo-Nesco schools. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada Women's Club, LCW-Martha and Rebecca circles, AFS, Child Study Club, Story County Hospital Auxiliary, ISEA-NEA, Girl Scout leader and DAR. Margaret enjoyed reading, knitting, was an avid sports fan, and loved being with children.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley Ebert, of Nevada; one daughter, Mary (Chester) Arthur, of Ringwood, Okla.; one son, William (Kathy) Ebert, of Washington; and one granddaughter, Jodi Ebert.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Jo Purcell.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Margaret's name for the Memorial Lutheran Church Parish Nurse Fund or the EMT's at Story County Medical Center.
Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
