Mabel Kahler, 96, of Maxwell, died Friday, March 21, at Israel Family Hospice House, Ames.

Mabel Kahler was born Sept. 7, 1911, near Nevada, the daughter of Asa C. and Nancy Jane (Young) Banks. She married Fred Merrel Kahler Nov. 9, 1929, in Des Moines. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Marge (Rhineardt) Kilker, of Rhodes; two sons, Richard (Donna) Kahler, of Maxwell, and Paul (Dorothy) Kahler, of Granger; eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Fred Banks, of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;, one daughter, Pat Coles, in 1998; one son, Robert, in 1930; three sisters; and six brothers.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with the Rev. Tom Lee officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Iowa Center.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Bacon Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Woodland Cemetery Association.

Bacon Funeral Home of Maxwell is in charge of arrangements.
