John "Bud" David Furman, 83, Nevada, died Friday, March 21, at Story County Long Term Care. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating.
John "Bud" David Furman was born Feb. 19, 1925, at home in Jewell, to Clifton and Orpha (Nemecek) Furman. He was a graduate of Jewell High School.
He married June Ann Alvestad June 3, 1944, in Jewell. They moved to Nevada in 1964. He was a farmer and also had been employed at Nevada Hardware, Sundstrand, Shrocks Fertilizer Plant and Iowa State Vet Clinic. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
He is survived by two sons, David Michael Furman, of Council Bluffs, and John David Furman Jr., of Nevada; two daughters, Mary Kathleen (Robert) Drain, of Waukesha, Wis., and Cynthia Ann (John) Sime, of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Furman, of Thousand Palms, Calif.; and one sister, Dorothy Hanson, of Great Falls, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, June, on Oct. 2, 1992, one son, Myron Paul Furman, in January 2004, and two sisters, Betty Morey and Marilyn Middlekauss.
Visitation will be today with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services, 708 Fifth St., Nevada.
A memorial fund has been established.
