Melvin A. Kelley, 84, of 7 Walnut Court, Rockwell, Iowa died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell.

A funeral Mass was held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm Street East, Rockwell, with Rev. Jon M. Seda, officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 13 in the chapel at Sacred Heart School, Rockwell, where a Scriptural wake service was held at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Knight's of Columbus rosary.

Memorials may be given to the Melvin A. Kelley memorial fund.

Melvin A. Kelley was born Sept. 27, 1922 at Dougherty, Iowa the son of Eugene and Bridget (O'Donnell) Kelley. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Ermer on Sept. 1, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell.

Melvin attended rural school at Dougherty and was a 1940 graduate of St. Patrick's High School, Dougherty. Following his father's death at the age of 12, Melvin began farming with his mother. He continued to farrn in the Dougherty area and represented Funk's Seed Company, retiring in 1989. In 2001 Melvin and Gertrude moved to Rockwell.

His memberships included Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knight's of Columbus-Third Degree, Farm Bureau, ASCS,Dougherty Volunteer Fire Department, Dougherty Telephone Company Board, Dougherty Elevator Board, and Dougherty Township Trustee.

Melvin enjoyed his family and grandchildren and attending their many family events. He especially enjoyed having coffee with his many friends each day.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Kelley, Rockwell; four sons, Michael (Ancha) Kelley, Huntsville, Alabama; David (Debbie) Kelley, Nora Springs; Tom (Jane) Kelley, Cedar Rapids; Mark
(Sheila) Kelley, Platteville, Wisconsin; four daughters, Mary (Randy) Rubel, Bellevue; Kathryn (Roger) Muehe, Murfreesboro,
Tennessee; Susan (David) Marchand, Glenville, Georgia; Patty (Scott) Schlorholtz, Roland; 23 grandchildren, Marie Kelley, Mark Kelley, Bill Kelley, Chris Rubel, Nick Rubel, Josh Rubel, Michael Rubel, Erin Muehe, Allison Muehe, Dawn Marchand, Matt Marchand, Sara Schlorholtz, Jon Schlorholtz, Tim Schlorholtz, Jamie Kelley, Brian Kelley, Chad Kelley, Lauren Kelley, Drew Kelley, Stephen Kelley, Jenna Kelley, Bridget Kelley, Samantha Kelley; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Amundson, Ft. Dodge; Marcella (Harry) Schutter, Titonka; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents and a brother in-law, Leon Amundson preceded him in death.
