Norman E. Madson, 88, of Britt passed away Friday, April 13, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.
A funeral service for Norman Madson was held Monday, April 16, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Britt with Pastor Lee Nelson and Janelle AiM officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation was held Sunday, April 15, 2007 from 3:00 — 5:00 p.m. at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday, April 16, 2007.
Norman, the son of Ole and Isabel Enderson Madson, was born May 14, 1918 on the family farm near Stanhope, Iowa. He graduated from Story City High School in 1935 and then attended one year at Waldorf College in Forest City before moving home to help on the farm. Norman moved to the farm 5 miles northwest of Britt in 1941.
On Oct. 3, 1943, Norman was united in marriage with Olivia Janette Johnson in Stratford, Iowa. The couple then continued to live on the farm near Britt where they raised their family. The couple raised turkeys from 1948 until 1974. They also raised feeder pigs from 1972 until 1993. Norman lived on the farm over 50 years until he and Janette moved into Britt in 1991. Norman retired from farming in 1994.
Family was very important to Norman, and every Sunday afternoon he and his family went to the Story City area to visit other family members. He had a certain level of trust in decisions his children made, instilling a sense of responsibility in them. He was a very patient and tolerant person who could talk to anyone. He was always trying new things and was very innovative.
His life was very centered on his family, church and community. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt where he was on the building committee for the new church. He served on the school board for 23 years including the local, county and Area 13 boards. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Farm Bureau.
Norman is survived by four children: Karen (Jim Rosso) Billings, Arlington, Virginia, Roger (Beth) Madson of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Michael (Cynthie) Madson of Britt, Verlaine (John) Hall of Hamburg; five grandchildren: Matthew (Kari) Madson, Stacey (Shawn) Ross, Tiffanie (Lee) Dau, Amanda Hall, Addie Hall; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Orville Madson of Webster City; sister-in-law Elsie Madson of Story City; many nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janette, three brothers and three sisters.
