Doris Pauline Olsan Reinhart, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 27, in Crestone, Colo., where she had lived for 27 years after the retirement of her husband, Harold. Her remains will be interred in Ames Municipal Cemetery this summer.
Doris Pauline Olsan Reinhart was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Ames, to Margaret Tungesvik and Charlie Olsan, longtime residents of the Ames community. Completing high school in Ames, she graduated from Iowa State College with a degree in dietetics in 1946. She worked for North American aviation as a chemist during World War II. She married Harold Robert Reinhart June 16, 1946, in Ames, a marriage of devotion lasting 59 years. She and Harold were loving parents to their three children while residing in Ames until 1967. They moved to Champaign, Ill., where they lived until he retired from the University of Illinois YMCA in 1981.
She was a cook par excellence who taught her daughters and son the importance of the "table," a poet, a wit and a lover of flowers and the garden. She will be missed by her family and her friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie (Alan Sutherland), of Taos, N.M., and Carol (Charles Moorhead), of Seattle, Wash.; one son, Robert Reinhart, of Denver, Colo.; three grandsons; one great-grandson; and her sister, Charlotte Meek and brother-in-law, Keith, of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005, a grandson and her parents.
