Alvina I. Barkema, 91, of Story City passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial followed in the Story City Cemetery.

Alvina was born Oct. 3, 1914 in Randall, Iowa to Martin and Christiana (Halvorson) Olson. She married Lester Barkema on June 18, 1938 in Randall. They moved to the Story City area in 1959 from Ellsworth. They farmed until 1981 when they moved into Story City. Alvina was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City.

Survivors include two daughters, Karon and her husband Paul Jamison of Bee, Nebraska and Janet and her husband Marshall Pearson of Missouri City, Texas; three sisters, Jeannette Rothfus of Little Rock, Arkansas, Jennie Headley of Webster City and Bertha Wakeham of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers (Magnus, Martin, Herman and Merlin Olson) and one sister (Hilda Hart).
