Jeanette Hazel Johnson, 94, of Story City, passed away Oct. 18, 2005 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 am. at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City with burial following at Lawn Hill Cemetery in rural Stanhope. Visitation was held Friday, Oct. 21 at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City from 3 - 8 p.m. with family present after 6:30 p.m.
Jeanette was born Aug. 6, 1911 to parents John Nels and Hanna (Teigland) Okland in rural Hamilton County near Jewell. She married Orvie Johnson Oct. 23, 1929. She had lived in Story City since 1991 and was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church. Prior to that, she was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Stanhope. She worked at Stanhope Grocery Store and at Iowa State University Residential Halls as a cook. She loved dogs and raising puppies and was excellent in training them.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (Berwyn) McCaskey of Ames and Bonnie (Richard) Whalen of Stanhope; one brother, Art Okland of Stratford; two sisters, Esther Miller of Story City and Myrtle Miller of Stanhope; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons, Eugene, Dan, and infant Michael; one sister, Lois Hovick; and two brothers, Merle and Arnold Okland.
Memorials may be given to the Iowa Blind Association, St. Petri Lutheran Church, or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
