Alice Martha Stevens, 88, of Lansing, Kansas, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.

Mrs. Stevens was born in Scott Township, Hamilton County, Iowa, on Dec. 24, 1918. She was the oldest daughter of Maynard Johnson and Annie (Thorson) Johnson. At the age of six on Jan. 29, 1925, her mother passed away, leaving three young girls and their father to grieve. Later, a step-mother, Tilly (Thorson) Johnson (her mother's younger sister) joined the family. And, another child was born to that union.

So, Alice grew to womanhood in a family of four sisters, attending Spring Valley School in Hamilton County, Iowa. The family moved and she completed high school in Roland, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She joined the Church of Christ after marriage.

On Aug. 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to Paul Stevens from Eagleville, Missouri. Three children were born to that union. During her marriage she lived in the Boone and Leon, Iowa areas, retiring to San Juan, Texas with her husband. One year after the death of her husband in 2002, she moved to a retirement home in Lansing, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, her husband, one daughter, Sharon Stevens, a brother, Arthur Johnson who died in infancy, two sisters, Gladys Markworth and Maxine Nelson, and one grandons, Paul Kokemiller.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Kokemiller and husband Marvin of Story City, a son, Doyle Stevens and wife Gay of Lansing, Kansas, one sister, Betty Arrasmith of Story City, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
