Mabel L. Hughes passed away Sept. 23, 2007 at the Story County Medical Center Long Term Care in Nevada.

Mabel was born May 17, 1918, in LeGrande, Oregon. She met Iowa native Kenneth Hughes while he was stationed in Oregon for training during World War II. They wed and she moved to Iowa to begin their lives together. Mabel and Kenneth farmed for many years near Story City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; two brothers; four sisters; and one grandson.

She is survived by her four children, Charles (Donna) Hughes, Margaret (Robert) Moss, Arthur (Joan) Hughes, and Mary Myers; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. Visitation was held at 10 a.m. preceding the service. Burial was at Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery, rural Story City.
