Brian Deon Olson, 44, of Ames, died Saturday, Dec. 15, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.

Deon Olson was born Nov. 1, 1963, in Nevada, to Bernard Dean and Eleanor "Sari" (Hagen) Olson. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1982.

Before his illness, he enjoyed working on the family farm, hunting, racing Modifieds around Iowa, his tree-cutting service ("Out On a Limb") and spending time with his son, Jarid.

He is survived by his father, Bernard Dean Olson, of Ames, and his friend, Sandy Harrison, of Nevada; his mother, Eleanor "Sari" (John) Lamberts, of Ames; one son, Jarid Brian Anthony Olson, and his fiancée, Saundra Grabau, of Gilbert; Jarid's brother and sisters, James, Bianca and Brianna; one brother, B. Dean (Nadine) Olson Jr., of Ames; five sisters, Debra (Mark) Bishop, of Carrolltown, Texas, Denise Doyle, of Ames, Deana Olson (Monte) Toresdahl, of Ames, Dawn Olson, of Knoxville, and Danette Olson, of Story City; nieces and nephews, Adam and Jordan Bishop, of Carrolltown, Texas, Heather Coburn, of Florida, Bradford Dean Olson, of Minnesota, Daniel, Andrew, Donovan and Margaret Doyle, of Ames, Jeremy (Ammi) Grady, of Story City, Zachary, Cody and Mallory Toresdahl, of Ames, Jessie, Jennie and Julie Miller, of Story City, and Michael David Deon Ashby, of Ogden; one great-niece, Danielle Grady, of Story City; four uncles and aunts; and many, many cousins and friends around the Midwest.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Elmer Hagen, Roy and Faye Dorsey, and Sigfred and Genevieve Olson; two uncles, Charles Hagen and Don Olson; and one nephew, Jamey Grady.

He generously donated his eyes to the Iowa Lion's Eye Bank.
