Catherine L. (Shearer) Diggins (1874-1958)

COLLINS GAZETTE

Catherine L. Diggins was born June 21, 1874 near Collins, Iowa, the daughter of Silas and Elizabeth Shearer and entered the eternal life August 28, 1958 at the age of 84 years, 2 months and seven days.

In 1894 she was married to Earnest L. Diggins of Melbourne, Iowa. After the death of her husband in 1931, she made her home with her sister, Mrs. J. B. Kimberely of Collins and Colo. Coming to the home of her niece, Mrs. Mildred Brinkman in September 1936, where she continued her home assisting in the care of Harold, John and Mary who became very dear to her.

"Aunt Kate", as she was known to everyone, fell and broke her hip on May 16, entered the Story County Hospital and following surgery completely recovered and returned home, but due to age and a semi-invalid condition for several years she gradually became weaker and passed away last Thursday afternoon.

Funeral services were held at the Brouhard funeral home in Zearing, August 30 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Paul Hasel of the Colo Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Collins.
