BAXTER - Greg A. Tyler, 58, died suddenly on Monday, Nov. 19 at his home in Baxter. Services were held Saturday, Nov. 24 at the Bethany United Church of Christ in rural Baxter with Rev. Gene Brant, Pastor and Rev. Jerry Stevenson of Iowa City officiating. Burial was at Restland Cemetary in Baxter. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton was in charge of the arrangements.
Greg was born in Nevada on October 21, 1949 to Frank C. and Arlene (Sorenson) Tyler. He grew up in Maxwell and had lived in Baxter since 1987. Greg was a graduate of Maxwell High School in 1968. Following graduation, Greg attended Art School in Minneapolis, Minn. He worked for many years in the printing industry, and was most recently a property manager for Baxter Property Management.
Greg was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ and was the founding father of the Hardcore Camper's Corp.
Greg married Sandi Townsend on November 28, 1987 in Baxter.
He is survived by his wife Sandi, two sons, Jude (and Marla) Tyler of Boone, Ryan Bucklin of Baxter; three daughters, Jane Reutter of Boca Raton, Fla., Kate Tyler of Santa Fe, N.M., Traci (and Jeff) Shepley of Baxter; six grandchildren, Gage, Grace, A.J., Abbey, Tyler and Cael; two brothers, Jon (and Sharon) Tyler of Van Meter, Kevin (and Rhonda) Tyler of Berthoud, Colo.; one sister, Deb Kahler of Des Moines; his mother, Arlene Tyler of Maxwell; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank C. "Jerry" Tyler; and a sister, Janet, in infancy.
Greg had a passion for music and was a talented artist. He also enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, camping, especially at Backbone State Park, and being with his family.
