Lawrence F. Doden, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 at Hubbard Care Center where he and his wife made their home. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe.
Lawrence was the eldest son of Henry Harm and Emma (Weers) Doden. He received his education by attending country schools, Scotch Grove, Langworthy, and Anamosa. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College in Cedar Rapids and The College of Swedish Massage in Chicago, Illinois in 1940. In 1987, Mr. Doden received his G.E.D. form Central Arizona College.
On July 5, 1942, Lawrence was united in marriage to Dorothy Romp at Grace Evangelical Church in Story City. He retired from IMT Insurance in Des Moines after 25 years of service. Lawrence was a World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Za Ga Zig Shrine. He greatly enjoyed his 20 years of retirement in Mesa, Arizona. He was very involved with many social activities in the retirement community. He enjoyed golf, playing cards and hiking in the desert moutains. He was always extremely active in his church, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. He and Dorothy were life long dance partners.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Karen (Leland) Coburn of Radcliffe and Marcia (Blaine) Jungers of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Angela Coburn of West Des Moines and Christopher (Ashly) Jungers of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister, Delores Romp of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brothers, Wilbur Doden of Vancouver, Washington and Kenneth Doden of Gibson City, Illinois, as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Marvin.
