Merle C. Twedt was born June 7, 1910 to Joe H. and Bertha (Pierson) Twedt on the family farmstead outside of Roland. He received his education in the rural schools. During WWII he served our country proudly in the United States Army as an ammunition truck driver and mechanic.
On June 7, 1947 he was united in marriage to Ora Johnson. They raised grain and livestock on their farm for over 45 years. He was also employed as a technician for the Iowa State Veterinary School.
Merle was an avid reader, and he enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the squirrels. He loved watching the sports and news on television. He was proud to have been a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. He was a long time member of Salem Lutheran Church. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.Merle passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa at the age of 96.
Merle is survived by his children, Susan Twedt of Marshalltown, Jim and his wife, Sue, of Boone, and Judy and her husband Tim LaBarge of Wausau, Wisconsin and their two children Jennifer and Lindsay LaBarge. He is also survived by his sister, Mayme Grindem, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In death he has rejoined his wife, Ora, his parents, and eight of his brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial followed at the Roland Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and also at Salem Lutheran
