THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, July 18, 2007.

Dr. H. Brown Otopalik, of Fond du Lac, Wis., died Wednesday, July 11, at Oak Terrace in Mankato, Minn. A private garden prayer service will be Friday, July 20, at his son's house in Mankato.

H. Brown Otopalik was the son of Hugo and Edith, longtime residents of Ames. He attended Iowa State University and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Bonnie M. MacFarland, of Evanston, Ill., in 1946. He continued his studies at the University of Iowa, where he received degrees in dentistry, orthodontics and a master of science degree. After serving in the Dental Corps during the Korean War, the couple settled in Fond du Lac, where he practiced orthodontics for more than 50 years. He was an active leader and participated in many social, fraternal, civic, and professional organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of Mankato, Minn.; his three sons, Steven T. (Dana) Otopalik, of Vail, Colo., Douglas W. (Julie Gerndt M.D.) Otopalik D.D.S., of Mankato, Minn., and Cameron M. (Miho) Otopalik Ph.D., of Yakima, Wash.; one sister, Mary Jean (Robert) Poppen, of Eugene, Ore.; and three grandchildren.
