THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, May 22, 2007.

Roberta Joy (Classon) Gutmann, 75, of Ames, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 20, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Roberta Joy (Classon) Gutmann was born Feb. 6, 1931, in Jewell. She was raised by her mother, Lulu, and her stepfather, Silas Wierson, in Roland. After graduating from Roland High School in 1949, she worked at the Iowa State Physical Plant. She married Jack Gutmann April 25, 1953, and they had two children, Nanci and Todd. Most of their married life was spent in Ames. She enjoyed baking, gardening and being a homemaker. She retired from CAST at ISU in 1993.

She is survived by her children, Nanci (Jock) Williamson, of Argyle, N.Y., and Todd (Amy) Gutmann, of Dallas; four grandchildren, Kelsey and Kevin Williamson, of Argyle, N.Y., and Ben and Danny Gutmann, of Dallas; one sister, Sharon (Roger) Christensen, of Austin, Minn.; one brother-in-law, George (Carmen) Gutmann, of Ames; three sister-in-laws, Helen Kibby, of Conrad, Geraldine Jones, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Doris Classon, of Story City. She also is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dale Classon; and her husband, Jack Gutmann.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all the wonderful care the staff of Homeward Hospice and Israel Family Hospice House gave Roberta. They are extremely grateful for the outstanding care the staff provided Roberta and for their extreme consideration of preserving her dignity throughout her final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to Israel Family Hospice House or Homeward Hospice.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
