Margaret Blacksten, 95, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, May 19, at home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

Hannora Margaret Sweeney was born Sept. 19, 1911, on a farm near Harvard. Margaret moved with her family to St. Marys and attended Catholic schools. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1928. She then attended Iowa State College for three years. Following her education, she worked at Montgomery Ward. She married Hal C. Blacksten July 26, 1940, in Grant City, Mo. In 1945, the couple established their home in Storm Lake where she did the bookkeeping and secretarial work for their family business, Storm Lake Flying Service. They relocated to Fort Dodge in1964 and owned and operated the Fort Dodge Flying Service until they retired in 1975. She obtained her pilots license at the age of 67.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Church and a former member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Ames.

She is survived by nieces, nephews and two sister-in-laws, Gayle Machado and Lillie Sweeney.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah (Boyle) Sweeney; her husband, Hal C. Blacksten; infant twin sister and brother; brothers, Laurence and Paul Sweeney; and sister, Ruth Lemmon.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday, May 24, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be left to Hospice of Fort Dodge or Holy Trinity Parish.
